A pepeha is a way of showing that you value the local environment and the important connection you have with the natural world. Did you know that for Maori, pepeha tell the story of how their tupuna came to Aotearoa in large waka.

6. Why is it important for kid to know their pepeha?

It identifies important places like your maunga, awa and marae. A pēpi and their whānau may have several pepeha that link them to their different whānau. When it's appropriate, especially at the start of a hui or gathering where we don't all know each other, a pepeha is great way to make links and connect with others.
